  • The Clam
    420 Hudson St., 212-242-8420, West Village, Manhattan
    The lowly clam gets its due at The Clam, a lovely, 50-seat corner spot in the West Village from Market Table partners Mike Price and Joey Campanaro. Chef Price's thick clam dip clings to zesty, browned house-made potato chips, a snack that would disappear in seconds at any party. Cherrystone stuffies—clams baked with pancetta, lemon and the holy trinity of finely diced celery, carrot and onion—are no less popular. And who can resist a fried belly-clam sandwich on a griddled bun spread with lobster remoulade? Oysters Rockefeller, chilled king crab and jumbo lump crab cakes are also on hand. The restaurant's design pays homage to shellfish too, without resorting to kitschy fishing nets or buoys; the vaulted, tiled ceiling gleams with mother-of-pearl, as if we're all in one giant mollusk together.
