  • Gallaghers
    228 W. 52nd St., 212-586-5000, Midtown, Manhattan
You'd never know Gallaghers went away in 2013 for a major overhaul (though there are a few changes besides getting rid of an apostrophe). The dark, classic steak house looks timeless, with the famed meat locker still windowed up front, the circa-1927 horseshoe bar intact and the walls chockablock with framed photos of household names of yore. Mature servers in jackets and long aprons deftly wheel around linen-covered carts bearing rib eyes and sirloins still glistening from the grill. Sides are mighty, such as the biggest baked potato you ever beheld and a pile of lightly battered onion rings nestled in a white cloth napkin. Restaurateur Dean Poll (Loeb Central Park Boathouse) has kept the menu traditional, though there are modern touches like hamachi crudo with yuzu jalapeño vinaigrette. Look no further for dining pre- or post-show in the Theatre District—Jersey Boys, All the Way, Rocky and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella are all steps away.
