    How you feel about foie gras may play a part in whether or not you'll venture to this off-the-beaten path Bed-Stuy hangout. Once animal-rights activists got wind of Do or Dine's foie gras doughnuts (a savory riff on the jelly kind), protests ensued. As with so many campaigns of this sort, the result was free publicity and a boon to business, according to co-owner Luke Jackson. He and partners George McNeese and Justin Warner worked at MoMA's The Modern together (another partner, Perry Gargano, is a drinking buddy). They built the space themselves, installing a curved, white tile kitchen, a compact bar and tabletops of laminated, faux-aged wallpaper. In back is a garden with graffiti-painted concrete walls. There's a decided Portlandia vibe to the place, and it's not implausible to spot musicians here: Santigold and M.I.A. live in the 'hood. The menu is just as interesting as the crowd, with salmon-and-chèvre-stuffed jalapeno poppers, nacho-like potstickers topped with cheese and sour cream, and "Et tu Brute?"—a Caesar salad with grilled romaine stabbed with a knife.
