Paris' Marais district has Middle Eastern cafés like this serving falafel that makes you rethink every falafel you've had before. At Zizi Limona it's structured like a house of cards, the small, crusty balls of chickpeas and spices piled up with shredded pickled cabbage, charred onions and tomato relish, all of it trickling with curried tahini. Carefully deconstructing it is part of the pleasure, allowing you to savor each bite. It cannot be wolfed down. And the super-smooth hummus? The only place in the City that compares is Hummus Place; it makes sense that the same owners, Sharon Hoota and Yigal Ashkenazi, are behind it. The chef is Nir Mesika, born in Israel and a grandson of the baker for the king of Morocco. He also offers fresh spins on lamb kebabs, shawarma and fattoush salad.
