Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto Il Ristorante
903 Madison Ave., 212-517-7700, Upper East Side, Manhattan
Il Ristorante is shorthand for famed Italian chef Cesare Casella's Upper East Side offshoot of his Upper West Side hit, Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto. The original is a casual trattoria and gastronomic purveyor of cured meats, Italian cheese and produce. Those mouthwatering products are also on hand at the new space in addition to a full-on, sit-down menu of primi (spaghetti alla carbonara, Amatriciana-style lasagna), secondi (roasted scallops with Tuscan lentils, ossobuco with polenta) and dolci (panna cotta with braised pineapple and rum raisin gelato). Three-time Oscar-winning art director Dante Ferretti (Hugo, Sweeney Todd, The Aviator) jazzed up the space with Roman/Pompeian-style statues, columns and frescoes. It's a white-tablecloth experience, with a 600-bottle wine list and polished service, but it still feels relaxed.
