Even for hard-core New Yorkers, surprises await around every corner. When did that place open? Where did that café go? What happened to that chef we loved? As is often said of NYC, the only constant here is change. A long-running café in TriBeCa is now a stimulating Laotian spot. The old Calle Ocho on the Upper West Side has gone Italian.
