Food industry professionals have been tweeting about Charlie Bird since it opened in June, and insider talk has it already contending for best new restaurant of the year. It's also made SoHo a dining destination again, not just a shopping mecca. The split-level space is stylish without being fancy. Chef and co-owner Ryan Hardy is a four-time regional James Beard Award nominee and worked as a private chef to Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Here he's making innovative Italian-influenced dishes, like grilled peach and prosciutto with walnut crema; duck egg spaghetti with uni, spring onions and lemon; and grilled black bass with heirloom tomatoes and Lambrusco. Co-owner Robert Bohr (ex-Babbo, Gramercy Tavern, Cru) assembled the incredible wine program, focusing on nuanced Italian reds and crisp, coastal Italian whites.
