  • The Palm West Side
    250 W. 50th St., 212-333-7256, Midtown, Manhattan
The Palm was founded in 1926 on the east side of Manhattan, but the swanky westside location, convenient to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, opened in 1999. The steak house has a vintage theater feel, with a pianist playing show tunes in the bar and caricatures to rival those of Sardi's crowding the dining room walls, updated to reflect hits like Spider-Man and Kinky Boots. Manhattans and martinis are huge, a big plus. You'll need replenishments from the bar menu, such as steakburger sliders with cheddar cheese and pesto mayonnaise, mini broiled crabcakes with mango salsa, and lobster and bacon fondue that's meant to be mopped up with warm pretzel rolls. Should you choose to have a formal meal in a lamp-lit, intimate booth, a tan-jacketed server will ceremoniously oversee deliveries of jus-flowing, bone-in rib-eye, hash brown potatoes and creamed spinach.
