NASA's space shuttle program may be over, but public interest in these unique spacecraft and their missions has hardly run out of fuel. On April 23, the space shuttle orbiter Enterprise takes one final flight (on the back of a 747, no less), leaving its spot at Washington, DC's Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and ultimately landing in an exhibition at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. While the aircraft is scheduled to go on public display in late June or early July (check back here for specific dates), kids can fill up on planetary education and entertainment before, during and after the much-anticipated debut. Fasten your seat belts and read on for the coolest ways children can discover space in New York City. Find out where to dig through archives of orbiting history, drop into a NASA-inspired workshop or hit a golf ball using the laws of motion and gravity.
