  • Death of a Salesman
    Ethel Barrymore Theatre, 243 W. 47th St.
Arthur Miller was writing about the 99% before most Occupy Wall Street protesters were even born. Death of a Salesman, his 1949 parable of the American Dream gone awry, is one of the classics of American theater—and literature. For this production, Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Willy Loman, the everyman of the play's title, joining a long list of legendary actors who portrayed Loman, including Lee J. Cobb, George C. Scott, Dustin Hoffman and Brian Dennehy. The revival is directed by the acclaimed Mike Nichols. Andrew Garfield, the new Peter Parker in the Spider-Man film franchise, plays Willy's unsuccessful son, Biff.
