Zum Schneider
107 Ave. C, 212-598-1098, East Village, Manhattan
The East Village's Zum Schneider, the creation of homesick Bavarian Sylvester Schneider, translates the German spirit by way of oversized beer mugs, a syllabic menu and an over-the-top Oktoberfest celebration. Zum Schneider features 12 German beers on tap, including exclusive Bavarian brews, and the venue has a traditional Bavarian-German menu. Try the hearty homeland dish Haxn, a crispy cooked pork shank, which is served on Fridays, Saturdays and most Sundays. Make sure you bring cash, because this beer garden doesn't accept credit cards. —CP
