  • L'Arte del Gelato
75 Ninth Ave., 212-366-0570, Chelsea, Manhattan
Founded by former diamond cutters, L'Arte del Gelato is a gem of Chelsea Market. Once browsers come across its shiny space, near the 10th Avenue entrance, they "ooh" and "aah" over the presentation of the 22 flavors as if they were jewels, their bright colors showcased with fresh ingredients on top. The smooth texture is another authentic facet. Stracciatella is the most popular selection, but the powerful flavors, like the spicy chocolate cayenne pepper and the buttery mascarpone, make the most impact. Batches are preciously made on the premises daily and are distributed to the L'Arte del Gelato outposts in the West Village and several other seasonal locations: on the High Line (in the food vendors area at 15th Street, from April to October), at Brooklyn Bridge Park and at Lincoln Center Plaza (both from May through September, weather permitting). —KS
