  • Some people move to New York City for the music. Others visit for it. Whether you come to play or to listen, the fact is that NYC has acquired pilgrimage status when it comes to rocking out (or scatting, crooning or rapping). This devotion is no surprise, given the City's legendary history of making stars. Even if you can't agree on who's better, there's no arguing that both Madonna and Lady Gaga got their starts here (along with Bob Dylan, Charlie Parker, Lou Reed, Billie Holiday, Run-DMC and many more). The prevalence and diversity of concert venues across the five boroughs only fortifies NYC's musical foundation. If you want gospel music during brunch, head to B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. If you prefer late-night PBR and indie-rock wailing, the Knitting Factory is the place for you. Catch a show after work at Sullivan Hall, or get your evening started at midnight at The Glasslands Gallery. It's all happening.
