  • Jekyll & Hyde
Nineties-era composer Frank Wildhorn has not had much luck on the Great White Way in the past few years (his two new musicals Bonnie and Clyde and Wonderland were huge flops), but Jekyll & Hyde was his longest-running show to date and developed a cult of fans—called "Jeckies"—on a pre-Broadway national tour. From 1997 to 2001, a revolving door of soap opera stars—including Robert Cuccioli, David Hasselhoff and Jack Wagner—played the schizophrenic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and for the past year the show's been back on tour with American Idol and Rock of Ages star Constantine Maroulis. Maroulis promises to bring a rock 'n' roll energy to the show's title roles alongside R&B star Deborah "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" Cox as the forlorn prostitute Lucy. Despite hit songs like “This Is the Moment,” which has been sung at many a graduation, not to mention the 1996 Democratic National Convention and the Olympics—and the wistful ballad “Someone Like You”—the show is far from a critical darling (as is Mr. Wildhorn). But if the American Idol fans and Jeckies unite, then Wildhorn might have a hit revival on his hands.
Marquis Theatre, 1535 Broadway. Opens April 2013
