Fun fact: Tom Hanks is the highest-grossing movie box office star of all time. But for all his actor, director and producer credits, Academy Awards and iconic rom-com roles, he's never once set foot on a Broadway stage. At 57, it looks like he finally found the right play—but his Broadway debut will be bittersweet. Lucky Guy is the last work that writer and director Nora Ephron, Hanks' good friend, wrote before her death this past summer. Hanks is set to portray New York Daily News and New York Post columnist Mike McAlary, who was known for his fearlessness and the respect he commanded from his subjects. He won a Pulitzer Prize for uncovering police brutality in 1997 and then died of cancer a year later at age 41. The Good Wife's Maura Tierney, also in her Broadway debut, will play McAlary's wife, and Courtney B. Vance is his editor. Tickets will sell out fast for this limited run, so get your credit card ready now.
Broadhurst Theatre, 235 W. 44th St. Previews begin March 1; opens April 1.
