Delve into the history and culture of one of New York City’s most legendary neighborhoods — Greenwich Village — on a guided, 3-hour, culinary walking tour. Discover the food that has defined 'the Village' for generations. Wander the streets with a local foodie and small tour group, stopping at some of its finest food spots, from sit-down restaurants to delicious 'holes in the wall.' Along the way, see what sets this small community apart from the rest of the Big Apple as the place to eat Italian food.

Highlights

  • Explore the local streets on a walking tour of the city
  • Soak up the atmosphere on a walking tour
  • Small group ensures personal service
  • Instant Confirmation

This walking food tour begins at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. Meet the foodie guide and the rest of the small group and prepare to be amazed. The tour is part generous lunch, part trip through the soul of a neighborhood. It's as much about understanding the history and culture that produced the food as it is about enjoying it.

Hear the story of how the South Village section of Greenwich Village developed from a lower-class Italian immigrant community to a modern-day mecca for food. Understand the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between Italian-American and Italian-Italian food, then learn to pick the best ingredients for cooking both styles at home.

Experience a variety of food tastings while roaming through 'the Village.' The route changes depending on the day and season to ensure there is always a sampling of the most up-to-the-minute dishes, but some things are too good to miss. Enjoy incredible pasta at Pagani Restaurant; sample fresh arancini, also known as stuffed rice balls, from Faicco’s Market; plus a couple other surprises, including a sweet treat to cleanse the palate.

Other sites on the schedule include John’s Pizzeria of Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village food speciality shops, historic neighborhood highlights; and South Village, an original Italian immigrant neighborhood.

With small groups of no more than 15 people, the tour will be intimate and the local foodie guide will have time to answer any and all questions, providing insider insights about the city. Be sure to get recommendations for restaurants that suit individual tastes and hotel location. With so many tastings included, don’t forget to come hungry.

The tour ends at Popbar, located at Carmine Street and 6th Avenue.
