NYCGO Logo Built in 1933 for the famous "Harlem Hellfighters"—the first black regiment to serve in World War I—the Armory is now an indispensable community center. The historic building is a giant indoor playground where children and adults can play games of tennis, climb rock walls, sharpen their basketball skills and more. There are exercises for the mind, too: the Armory features tutoring and mentoring services. It also hosts public events such as conferences, career fairs and athletic competitions.
