Chef Joe Isidori learned to cook in Yonkers from his Italian grandmother and father, moving on to hone his talents at the Culinary Institute of America. Before opening his own place in Brooklyn, career highlights included working as a private chef for the Trump family and executive chef at Southfork Kitchen in Bridgehampton. Arthur on Smith is a dark, intimate, wood-detailed space that looks more like a bar than a restaurant. But a fine restaurant it is, serving phenomenally appealing New American–Italian food. It's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu, but standouts include handmade burrata, bucatini with squid and bacon and a pork chop with fingerlings and pickled peppers. Bread is no afterthought; it's warmed and comes with butter doused in honey. Tables also get a free plate of house-made pickles.
