description/

NYCGO Logo Before turning onto the boardwalk from Stillwell Avenue, take a peek at the lively, sandbox-like bar to your right. Many of its patrons will likely have kicked off their shoes while relaxing under the fake palm trees. Margaritaville meets Coney Island kitsch on Beer Island, where beachy tunes blare from the speakers, drinks are tropical (in addition to, of course, an impressive beer selection) and peculiar visitors occasionally drop by tangled up in their pet boa constrictors. The sand-filled dive is a great place to chill out after a long walk on the boardwalk or a day of Wonder Wheel–like amusements. If you're hungry, you can even pick up a sandwich at the Chicken and Bar-B-Que Islands right next door. Keep in mind, though, that Beer Island is not the pristine seaside paradise you'd find on a resort (portable toilets are located in the back)—but isn't that part of Coney Island's charm?
