Few bars combine wit, glamour and coziness as well as Bemelmans. The whimsical Central Park murals—as painted by Ludwig Bemelmans, the bar's namesake and creator of the Madeleine series of books—give the sophisticated art deco decor a storybook gloss. Bar fare includes refined treats like mini marinated lamb chops and homemade foie gras terrine. And after a few of the famous cocktails (the Gin-Gin Mule and the Old Cuban are worth a try), look over the murals thoroughly to find all of the artistic witticisms you missed the first time. A Madeline-themed high tea is offered for children.
