When Phoebe Philo became Céline’s creative director in 2008 she revived the struggling French brand by adopting the less-is-more aesthetic in her designs; simple shapes, color blocking and minimalism define her runway shows. She also introduced the world to the much-sought-after handbag known simply as the "Luggage Tote." This two-story Madison Avenue flagship, which also happens to be the only outpost of the brand in the US, stocks numerous styles of that signature tote as well additional leather handbags, accessories, shoes and clothing from the women’s ready-to-wear collection, all of it neatly displayed. Note: Céline does not have an online store, and before this brick-and-mortar location debuted, Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman were the exclusive retailers.
