This ritzy East Village dumpling palace spotlights Hong Kong native Joe Ng’s riffs on Chinese classics. The extravagant Asian-inflected design is a jaw-dropping chinoiserie dream complete with a lily pad–laden koi pond, a chic alternative to the City’s normally bare-bones dim sum parlors. Still, most of the food here is familiar and homey, including the toothsome turnip cakes, roast pork lo mein and shrimp in black bean sauce. Exception: the frozen mai tais, which are best enjoyed in the swanky downstairs lounge.
