Congregation Beth Simchat Torah Chelsea Sanctuary

Congregation Beth Simchat Torah Chelsea Sanctuary

296 Ninth Ave at 28th St
Manhattan, NY 10001

description/

Everyone is welcome at this Jewish community center, which stands behind the idea that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Jews (and also straights and non-Jews) should have a supportive place to worship. Started in 1973 by Jacob Gubbay, a gay Jew from India who was looking for a place to lead a Passover Seder, Congregation Beth Simchat Torah has grown steadily, evolving from a place with just a handful of members to a sanctuary with hundreds of worshippers and community members from all over the five boroughs.
