Appointment-only showroom Designlush is geared to the trade, but owner and designer Stephen Mitchell is happy to work with the general public. Mitchell's Modernist Collection, a glam, 1940s-style line of bedroom and living room pieces with exotic wood and rich cowhide details, supplements a rotating showcase of 30 designers, including antler-chandelier creator Jason Miller and organic-woodsman John Houshmand. Need that lamp in red? Or that desk four inches shorter? Mitchell's roster is plumb with expert fabricators, master woodworkers and lighting geniuses, each one able to create a one-off piece to exact specifications. "After all," Mitchell says, "if you are paying $15,000 for a sofa, it needs to be perfect."
