Amanda Cohen, the former chef of Moby’s Lower East Side teahouse, Teany, is the brainchild of this stylish vegetarian café, where the “dirt candy” in question actually means vegetables (candy from the dirt in the ground…get it?). But these aren’t just any veggies—even carnivores might be converted to the leafy side once they try these delicious offerings, including spinach soup with smoked tofu dumplings, carrot risotto and Pinot Grigio pappardelle. Pastry chef Debbie Lee steps up the dessert game with everything from sesame caramel cake to popcorn pudding.
