Time Out NY Stephanie Pappas recently closed her shop on Mulberry Street because she felt like she was "watering down the collection to fit in the neighborhood." And there's a hint of pride in her voice when she mentions that her sleek new all-in-one boutique, gallery, showroom and design studio was an abandoned, rat-infested deli when she got her hands on it. Pappas hopes to turn the massive bi-level store into an interactive experience between artists and designers. "I want to make the shopping experience more social, and create a home for artists--I have a feeling the design studio will end up being more of a hangout," she says. In stock are a few edgy, established labels like Vivienne Westwood and Helmut Lang, but the majority are emerging designers with mixed price-points. In the gallery, Pappas plans to feature a different artist or installation every two months.
