Riverside Dr at 122nd St at 1st Pl
Manhattan, NY

description/

Time Out NY Nobody is buried in this aboveground mausoleum (the nation's largest), but former president Ulysses S. Grant and wife Julia have been permanent residents for more than a century. Architect John Duncan based his marble-and-granite design on the tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, one of the original Seven Wonders of the World. While hourly tours offer visitors a close-up view of the First Couple's twin sarcophagi on the lower level, you can sneak a peek on your own from the ground-floor balcony.
