Members of GANYC, one of the oldest U.S. guides’ associations, are licensed by the City’s Department of Consumer Affairs; it is illegal to conduct a tour in NYC without such a license. All adhere to a strict code of ethics. Members work as bus “step-on” guides, tour managers, language interpreters, airport/pier meet-and-greeter and at hospitality desks.
