Like a beacon of light on a dingy stretch of Houston Street, the marquee on this popular independent movie house—bright, shining letters that read “SUNSHINE”—draws movie lovers in like moths to a flame. Larger and more comfortable than some of the other independent New York movie houses, the Sunshine, which resides in a building constructed in 1898, boasts five theaters (three with stadium seating), a Japanese rock garden and a concession stand with surprisingly good caramel popcorn and espresso.
