description/
The Living Theatre (founded by Julian Beck and Judith Malina in 1947) created several of the pieces that made New York a theatrical mecca in the '60s and '70s--the hyperrealist The Connection and protest-art constructions like Paradise Now, among them--but it lost its spaces to the IRS and the New York Buildings Department. Now Malina has returned from a nomadic existence abroad to establish another pacifist, vegetarian, antiauthoritarian beachhead on the Lower East Side. The space, a low-ceilinged concrete room, has housed rental pieces like Hillary: A Modern Greek Tragedy as well as the unstoppable Malinas own projects.
