Mile End Sandwich

53 Bond St. (bet. Bowery and Lafayette St.)
Manhattan, NY 10012

Montreal native Noah Bernamoff made a splash at Brooklyn's Mile End, a cherished deli whose smoked and cured meats come from quality sources. So many Manhattanites made the pilgrimage, he and his partners decided to come to them, opening Mile End Sandwich in NoHo. It's a counter-service, fast-food place in a good sense, the meats still impeccable, the pickles and potato salad still house-made. Smoked brisket on rye is a classic, but the breakfast sandwich (served until 4pm)—fried eggs with smoky slab bacon and Quebec cheddar on rye—also deserves props. The Buffalo specialty beef on weck (roast beef and gravy in a caraway-seeded roll) is another high point, and it's hard to think of a better chicken salad sandwich.
