Murray's Cheese Bar

264 Bleecker St. (bet. Morton and Leroy Sts.)
Manhattan, NY 10014

description/

NYCGO Logo Murray's Cheese Shop started out in Greenwich Village in 1940 and has been moving on up to bigger and brighter spaces in the neighborhood ever since. Murray's Cheese Bar is a natural outgrowth of the business, a place where you can sit and savor world-class cheese along with a well-curated list of wines, craft beer and hard cider. The long, narrow room has white subway-tiled walls, creating an echo chamber effect when all the tables and red bar stools are occupied. Who knew so many people were obsessed with cheese? Owner Rob Kaufelt and chef fromager Tia Keenan also serve salads (most with cheese, of course), sandwiches, dips, spreads, pasta and oddball-but-good things like butternut squash kugel with cottage cheese, maple syrup, currants and toasted corn flakes.
