Museum for African Art

1280 Fifth Ave. (bet. E. 109th and E. 110th Sts.)
Manhattan, NY 10029

The Museum for African Art is one of America’s foremost institutions, devoted to both historical and contemporary African art. Mixed media exhibitions like Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art have been a success not only at the museum itself, but also as national touring shows. The museum is currently closed to the public; it will reopen in late 2012 after it moves into a new home on Fifth Avenue near 110th Street—the first new addition to Museum Mile since the Guggenheim opened in 1959.
