Pip-Squeak Chapeau

Pip-Squeak Chapeau

99 Franklin St between Greenpoint Ave and Milton St
Brooklyn, NY

Time Out NY Designer and store owner Sveta Dresher enlisted the help of local Brooklynites to handcraft her collection of limited-edition creations. "It's not so much about what's fashionable today," Dresher says. "It's more about the fabric, the way it falls and how it makes you feel." The emerging line, Pip-Squeak Chapeau--named after an old French tale and translates into "kids hats," (Dresher's original concept)--is made with 100% natural yarns and fabrics, such as linen, cotton, hemp, wool, silk, alpaca and mohair. The shop offers delicate handmade clothing and accessories for women and children, as well as a selection of paintings and photographs from Brooklyn artists. You'll find hand-knit hooded hats ($112), merino wool capes ($130), plush cable-knit scarves ($140) and other oddities like clay waffles on a plate ($90). Dresher views her space as an open sanctuary--and it's easy to see why with the constant flow of music, comfy chairs and an inviting backyard. "You don't even need to shop here. If you want to buy something today, tomorrow, whenever, that's fine; I want this to be a pleasant place where people come to find something that will make them feel good," she adds.
