Environment 337, the beloved gift and housewares shop in Carroll Gardens, has expanded its local taste-shaping takeover with Retrospect, a new boutique on Smith Street from the same owner. Gothic and moody where Environment 337 is modern and airy, Retrospect specializes in both vintage and new items, aesthetically inspired by the Victorian era, religious iconography and natural history (think less AMNH and more Nightmare Before Christmas). Don’t be wary of the dark curtains hanging in the windows—shopping here isn’t creepy in the least.
