Brooklyn – Park Slope
145 Fifth Ave between Lincoln St and St. John's Pls
Mindful of the fact that urban parents have little space for kids' clutter, Jenn LaBelle, owner of Park Slope's Romp, fills her children's shop with a carefully edited batch of high-design furniture, unusual togs and low-tech classic toys. Playthings are laid out at toddler eye-level, so munchkins can try out goods such as a walk-in cardboard rocketship ($50) and timeless Colorforms sets ($32). For Junior's room, consider bright woven rugs made from recycled T-shirts ($141--$426), plus locally designed works, including a mod crib ($825) and changing table ($196) from Oeuf and a birch toy chest from Williamsburg's Argington ($370).
