Beautifully designed and humbly presented, the Saipua store is as lovingly handcrafted as the soaps sold within. Walls are made from the reclaimed wood of a weathered old barn, and there are charmingly quaint touches throughout: antique furnishings, vintage decorative flourishes, pretty little trinkets and more. It’s fanciful and rustic, betraying no hint of the concrete blandness of the warehouse that houses it. Along with the handmade olive oil–based soaps that launched the business in 2007, Saipua—whose name is taken from the Finnish word for soap—is well known for its aromatic candles and lush flower arrangements.
