Time Out NY Originally opened on October's Black Friday as a holiday pop-up shop in response to the economy's current recession (and named after the Great Depression), this once vintage-cum-art gallery designer space has extended its stay on Mott Street from its anticipated close in January. "It's about being playful and optimistic during this uneasy time," director of operations Levi Keller says about the original plan for the store. But with an overwhelming good response, "We took all of that optimism and decided to turn the store into a full boutique," he adds. Co-owners Levi Okunov, Aaron Genuth and Ari Kaplan aim to offer top-quality fashion at market deprecated prices, including the 1929 in-store collection, which can only be described as cheerful and features poncho bubble coats ($139), playfully designed urban chic Milkshake sneakers ($45) and electric purple two-way stretch vinyl raincoats ($179). Loot from other designers and artists include hipster T-shirts from Brooklyn Rock, mixed media pieced by Rivka Karasik and makeup from Linda Mason.
