Brooklyn – Red Hook
18 Commerce St between Columbia and Richards Sts
A club still needs to be pretty happening to draw people to the still-somewhat-remote neighborhood of Red Hook, but this one is: a big, wide-open space with a backyard smoking area so large that the management has actually booked bands back there on occasion. The music covers the indie-rock spectrum: local stars the Slackers routinely pack the Hook, and the club has also been a friendly home to noise artists and the No Fun Fest. The Hook is a bit too remote to be included in a night of club-hopping, but it's enough of a destination on its own, and for big shows there are shuttle buses from the subway.
