Manhattan – Chelsea
40 W 25th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves
Set over four expansive floors, this indoor market houses more than 200 high-quality dealers selling everything from vintage designerwear to Greek and Roman antiquities. Among the highlights are Joe Sundlie Vintedge's colorful, bang-on-trend vintage pieces from the likes of Lanvin and Alaia on the ground floor, and Waves L.L.C. (on the ground and second levels) for early radios and phonographs. But our favorite is Mood Indigo--arguably the best source in the city for collectible bar accessories and dinnerware. The array of Bakelite jewelry and table accessories, Fiestaware and novelty cocktail glasses and shakers is dazzling, and it's a wonderful repository of Art Deco cigarette cases, lighters in the shape of ships, cameras and rocket cars, as well as vintage New York memorabilia, including souvenirs (glasses, pillboxes, even a charm bracelet) from the 1939 World's Fair.
