Created in 2000 by Jan and Marica Vilcek, former residents of what was known as Czechoslovakia, this organization is devoted to supporting both arts and biomedical science, handing out the prestigious Vilcek Prize to foreign-born people who have achieved great things. In addition to cultural events for television shows such as Lost, the foundation supports architects, musical composers, film directors and chefs as well as such programs as the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Santa Fe Opera.
