Chelsea's innumerable galleries have made the Manhattan neighborhood a favorite art-gazing destination, but DUMBO's own gallery hop is a peripatetic aesthetic adventure par excellence: more than 20 venues are now included in the monthly culture crawl, which begins at 5:30pm on the first Thursday of every month. If the terrain in the area is unfamiliar, fear not—maps are provided. On December 3, locales such as the Randall Scott Gallery, Bose Pacia and Brooklyn Arts Council open their spaces to showcase a wealth of paintings, sculpture and photography, not to mention the artist talks, food, music and drinks that go along with the fete. The neighborhood's ambience of hidden and humble grandeur—views of the Manhattan Bridge, exquisitely weathered brick buildings—provides a tranquil and inspiring backdrop as you walk from one venue to another. After picking up a copy of Drunk: The Definitive Drinker's Dictionary at Gallery Walk participant Melville House Books, slide over to Speak Low for the artist-friendly happy hour, featuring half-price wine and cocktails, that continues until 10pm.
