DJ Rekha, S.O.B.’s

DJ Rekha, the music mastermind behind the monthly Basement Bhangra parties at S.O.B.’s, shares how bhangra, a type of Punjabi music, has become a staple of New York’s club scene over the past decade. Touching on the history of S.O.B.’s, which was started because of owner Larry Gold’s love of music (the club’s name stands for “Sounds of Brazil”), DJ Rekha describes how the SoHo venue has helped bring music from around the world to the City’s club-goers and her connection to the energy of the diverse and passionate crowd.
