A three-floor converted factory definitely qualifies as "Off-Off-Broadway," but the Flea Theater isn't lacking star wattage: actors like Marisa Tomei, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray and Tim Robbins have all recently taken the stage at this cozy venue, which houses two tiny theaters (one with 74 seats, the other with 40). This year, the Flea brings in the holiday cheer with The Great Recession, a cluster of six 10-minute plays that includes a performance about 11 people sharing a studio and a drama about a laid-off meat cutter who gets a unique new job. Membership in the theater—dues start at only $25—has privileges, as participants can enjoy complimentary beer and wine at the venue and discounts at local restaurants afterward.
