2018 Tony Award Nominees

Brian Sloan

A very nice sea sponge and some very mean girls lead the pack of Tony nominees this year. Two new musicals, SpongeBob SquarePants and Mean Girls, received 12 nominations apiece. Five other plays and musicals from the 2017–18 season earned 11 nominations each, including the just-opened blockbuster Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the critically praised tuner The Band's Visit.

In the acting categories, movie stars Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington will be competing for best actor in a revivial, and Glenda Jackson is a favorite for the honor in the best actress category. Also, two Broadway newcomers nabbed their first Tony nods: Amy Schumer for her role in Steve Martin's comedy Meteor Shower and Lauren Ambrose for putting a new spin on Eliza in My Fair Lady.

Nearly all of this year's major nominated shows and performers are still onstage, so check them out before the winners are announced on June 10 at Radio City Music Hall. Even if a show is popular, there are always some creative ways to find last-minute tickets to some of this season's biggest hits. (Shows that have finished their runs are not linked below.) So read on for nominees in the main categories, and make sure to see these honored shows this spring and summer.
