The arts and cultural center at the majestic United Palace, formerly the Loew's 175th Street Theater, provides arts education, space, and events that serve the local community of Washington Heights and the greater metro area. Performing arts events range from the five-year anniversary concert of In the Heights, to literary readings by Pulitzer Prize–winning Junot Diaz, to the inaugural production of The Hip Hop Nutcracker. UPCA also hosts monthly Movies at the Palace with pre-show entertainment (dance, mini-concerts, Q&As) honoring the theater's vaudevillian roots.
