New York's Yiddish theater, which had its peak between the late 19th and mid 20th centuries, grew to be an American phenomenon. This art form, which led to Second Avenue being dubbed the Yiddish Broadway/Yiddish Rialto, entertained some 1.5 million first and second generation Eastern-European Jewish immigrants.
