here is a rich and vibrant community of African immigrants in the Bronx—many of whom have settled in the borough over the last decade—and this multimedia exhibit is both an acknowledgment and a celebration of their contributions to New York City’s cultural present and future. Twenty-five artists with roots from across the continent— Senegal, Nigeria, Mali and numerous other countries are represented—offer works in multiple visual formats and innovative styles. In addition to the exhibit, the event schedule also features panel discussions, African food tastings, book readings, musical performances, a poetry town hall meeting and more than a few chances to attend in-person discussions with the artists about their work.
