After a successful and critically acclaimed run at the Public Theater, this work from Nigerian-American playwright—and The Walking Dead actress—Danai Gurira (In the Continuum) transfers to Broadway. During the Liberian Civil War, a 15-year-old unnamed girl finds herself forced into a life as the sexually exploited “wife” of a rebel fighter. Though bonding with fellow captive wives keeps her sanity and humanity intact, the girl finds that she still must decide her future and whether to escape, remain, join the rebel fighters or forge an alternate path fighting for peace. Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) stars in this devastating lamentation on the high price of war.
