For centuries there has been a strong connection between fashion and nature. Take, for example, the timeless lure of animal prints like leopard and zebra. The Museum at FIT has pulled together more than 75 objects from its permanent collection to illustrate how nature has influenced fashion from the 18th century up until today. More than a simple display of animal-inspired fabrics, the exhibition explores deeper issues by presenting items such as an Alexander McQueen dress that is meant to conjure up images of Darwin’s theory of evolution and the current issue of climate change.
